Logo Mat Materials Explained: Rubber, PET, Berber & More

last updated:Sep 10, 2026

A logo mat might look simple from the top, but there is a lot happening underneath the surface.

Depending on the mat, its construction may include PET fibers, nitrile rubber, polyknit fabric, polyurethane foam, polymeric film, or a combination of several materials. Each one serves a purpose — from capturing dirt and moisture to providing traction, cushioning feet or creating a surface where a detailed logo can stand out.

That is why choosing a custom logo mat isn't only about picking the design you like best. The materials used to make the mat can help determine where it performs best and what you can expect from it.

Here's a closer look at common logo mat materials and how they're used across our different mat styles.

What Are Logo Mats Made Of?

There isn't one universal material used for custom logo mats.

Some are constructed with a textile surface and rubber backing. Others are almost entirely rubber. Anti-fatigue mats combine durable surfaces with cushioned foam, while promotional mats prioritize lightweight materials and vibrant printed graphics.

At My Logo Mat, you'll find mats made with materials including:

  • PET (polyethylene terephthalate)
  • Nitrile rubber
  • Polyknit fabric
  • Polyurethane
  • Polymeric film
  • High-density foam

The right combination depends largely on what you need the mat to do.

An entrance mat needs to deal with foot traffic, dirt, and moisture. An outdoor mat needs materials capable of handling a tougher environment. A promotional mat may prioritize graphic reproduction and portability. An anti-fatigue mat needs cushioning that helps make long periods of standing more comfortable.

Let's break down the differences.

PET: A Practical Fiber for Entrance Mats

PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate, a durable synthetic material commonly used to create textile fibers.

For logo mats, PET works particularly well because it can create a carpet-like surface capable of displaying a printed design while also performing the practical job expected from an entrance mat.

You'll find PET in several of our most popular options.

UltraPrint

Our UltraPrint Logo Mat uses printed/disperse-dyed PET yarn over a rubber backing.

This construction gives you two important things in one mat: a textile surface for reproducing detailed, colorful branding, and a rubber-backed foundation designed for everyday floor use.

That makes UltraPrint a strong all-around choice for indoor entrances, lobbies and other branded spaces where appearance and everyday functionality are equally important.

WaterHog

WaterHog Logo Mats also use PET with a rubber backing, but the surface is engineered around the needs of an entrance mat.

The construction and molded pattern help the mat manage the dirt and moisture that gets tracked in on shoes, while the rubber border and backing help create a durable barrier between the mat and the floor underneath.

This is why material and construction matter so much. Two mats can both contain PET and rubber while being engineered for different levels and types of performance.

What Is Berber?

"Berber" is often used to describe a textured, looped carpet style rather than one specific raw material.

Our BerberPrint Logo Mat uses PET fiber containing at least 80% recycled content paired with a rubber backing.

The coarser, textured surface gives BerberPrint a different feel from a smoother printed entrance mat. That texture is especially useful when the goal is to help scrape dirt and debris from footwear.

In other words, the advantage isn't simply that the mat contains PET. It's how those PET fibers are constructed into the surface of the mat.

For businesses looking for a hardworking entrance mat with a more textured appearance, BerberPrint offers a combination of branding, scraping performance, and recycled fiber content.

Polyknit: Made for Printed Graphics

Polyknit is another material you'll see in several of our logo mat constructions.

As the name suggests, it is a knitted textile surface. For our mats, its biggest advantage is that it provides a surface where a logo or image can be reproduced while the material underneath provides the structure and performance.

Two good examples are TreadPop and ValuePop.

TreadPop

TreadPop combines a rubber mat border and backing with a polyknit logo/image surface in the middle.

The rubber provides the primary mat structure, while the polyknit portion creates the branded area. It's a useful example of how different materials can be layered together instead of asking one material to do everything.

ValuePop

ValuePop uses polyknit with a rubber backing.

It's designed as an economical promotional option, making it especially useful for events, temporary displays, retail promotions and other situations where you want to put branding on the floor without necessarily needing the construction of a heavy-duty entrance mat.

This is an important distinction when comparing logo mat materials: more heavy-duty isn't automatically better.

The best material is the one that fits the job.

Rubber: The Workhorse Behind Many Logo Mats

Rubber shows up again and again in logo mat construction, and for good reason.

It can provide durability, flexibility, and a sturdy foundation. Depending on the product, rubber may be used as a backing underneath textile fibers or as the primary material of the mat itself.

But even "rubber" isn't one single construction.

Nitrile Rubber

Nitrile rubber is a synthetic rubber known for its durability, which makes it a useful material when a mat needs to stand up to repeated use.

Our ToughPop Logo Mat, for example, is made from nitrile rubber.

Rather than relying on a traditional carpeted surface, its rubber construction makes it a practical option when durability is a major consideration.

Nitrile rubber also plays a role in one of our anti-fatigue products, LogoSoft, which we'll get into below.

Rubber + Polymeric Film

Our LogoTread Logo Mat uses rubber as its primary material with a polymeric film for the logo or image.

This allows the mat to combine the rugged qualities of a rubber surface with custom graphics.

LogoTread is designed for outdoor applications, including areas exposed to direct sunlight, so its material construction is very different from the soft PET surface you might choose for an indoor lobby.

This is a perfect example of why indoor and outdoor logo mats aren't interchangeable simply because they both have your logo on them.

Anti-Fatigue Mat Materials: What's Inside Matters

Entrance mats primarily need to interact with footwear. Anti-fatigue mats have another job entirely: they're designed for people to stand on for extended periods.

That means cushioning becomes a major part of the material construction.

ComfortPrint: Open-Cell Polyurethane Cushioning

ComfortPrint uses a PVC-free polyurethane synthetic leather surface over high-density, open-cell polyurethane foam.

Open-cell foam contains tiny interconnected air pockets that allow the material to compress under pressure. In an anti-fatigue mat, that creates a cushioned surface that gives beneath your feet rather than feeling like a hard floor.

Polyurethane foam is commonly used for cushioning because it can provide a balance of softness, support and shock absorption. For ComfortPrint, that cushioned construction sits underneath the printable surface, allowing the mat to provide both custom branding and standing comfort.

LogoSoft: Closed-Cell Nitrile/PVC-Blended Cushioning

LogoSoft uses nitrile rubber and polymeric film over a cushion made from high-density, closed-cell nitrile/PVC-blended foam.

Unlike open-cell foam, closed-cell foam contains individual sealed cells. This creates a denser structure that is less porous and more resistant to moisture entering the cushion.

The nitrile/PVC blend also gives LogoSoft a different cushioning construction from ComfortPrint. Rather than simply making one mat "softer" and the other "harder," think of them as two different approaches to anti-fatigue support: ComfortPrint uses an open-cell polyurethane cushion, while LogoSoft uses a closed-cell nitrile/PVC-blended cushion.

Both are designed to make prolonged standing more comfortable, but the materials underneath the surface help each mat achieve that goal differently.

Rubber Backing vs. Rubber Mat: What's the Difference?

This is one of the easiest logo mat specifications to misunderstand.

A rubber-backed mat isn't necessarily a rubber mat.

For example, UltraPrint, WaterHog and BerberPrint have textile fibers on the surface with rubber underneath. You interact with the fiber surface when you walk across the mat, while the rubber forms the backing.

A product such as LogoTread, on the other hand, uses rubber as the primary mat material.

The distinction matters because the surface is responsible for much of the mat's interaction with shoes, dirt, water and your printed design, while the backing helps support the mat and protect the flooring underneath.

Which Logo Mat Material Is Best?

There is no single "best" logo mat material because different materials solve different problems.

For a versatile indoor entrance:
A PET surface with rubber backing, such as UltraPrint, provides a strong balance of branding and everyday entrance performance.

For moisture and busy entrances:
WaterHog combines PET and rubber in a construction specifically designed around demanding indoor and outdoor entrance conditions.

For a more textured scraping surface:
BerberPrint uses PET fiber with recycled content and a textured Berber-style construction.

For outdoor use:
A rubber-based option such as LogoTread is better suited to tougher outdoor environments and direct sunlight.

For promotional and event spaces:
Polyknit options such as ValuePop and TreadPop provide a branded surface without requiring the same construction as a permanent entrance mat.

For standing work areas:
ComfortPrint and LogoSoft add high-density cushioning to create an anti-fatigue surface.

The easiest way to choose isn't to ask, "Which material sounds the strongest?"

Ask, "What does my mat need to do?"

The Material Is Part of the Performance

It's easy to shop for a logo mat based entirely on what you can see: the colors, logo, size and overall design.

But some of the most important differences are inside the mat.

PET fibers can create a functional branded entrance surface. Textured Berber construction helps tackle debris. Rubber provides a durable foundation. Polyknit creates a printable branded surface. High-density foam turns a standard floor mat into an anti-fatigue solution.

Those material choices aren't random. They're part of what makes each mat suited to a particular environment.

So before choosing your custom logo mat, think about where it's going, what people will track across it, how much traffic it will see, and whether its main job is to scrape, absorb, cushion, promote or simply make your brand more visible.

Once you know the job, choosing the right material, and the right mat, becomes much easier.
